In the Mix with Sara Fichtner

In the Mix is a quarterly curation of writing and resources to encourage connecting through culture.

What does connecting through culture mean

Guided by a mix of definitions of culture, my hope is to inspire people across cultures [groups, nations, and beliefs] to connect with each other and themselves through the appreciation and understanding of culture [art, customs, and practices].

What to expect from In the Mix

Each quarter will have a theme of ________+Culture (such as Nature+Culture, Service+Culture), and each post will have four elements that relate to the theme.

In My Own Words: Relevant writing that I’ve published on the topic

Inspiration: Books, podcasts, movies or shows I’ve read, heard or seen

Encouragement: A story or excerpt that encourages cultural reflection

Connection: Points of connection with me or culturally-curious kindred spirits

About the Curator

Sara Fichtner is a Hoosier-Filipina writer and nonprofit professional. She writes on topics related to culture, family, and faith - and by day serves as a grant writer for a mixed-race, mixed-income independent school in Indianapolis.

She and her husband are parents to two sons and short-term foster parents to immigrant children journeying to connect with family in the U.S. Through gathering, traveling, and reading, Sara enjoys learning about different cultures and customs through shared stories, especially over a delicious meal.

Connect with her on Instagram, Facebook, and her website.
